Mixed Media Butterflies Painting - The Long Becoming II

Butterflies have always held a special meaning for me. I know so many people feel the same way — they represent transformation, lightness, and freedom. That’s why this painting is one of my favorites.

The Long Becoming Series for me, explores transformation that unfolds slowly, after extended periods of stillness and waiting. Shaped by shared human emotional states—loneliness, oneness, uncertainty, and renewal—and informed by my lived experience as a female immigrant, these works reflect moments when what has been held quietly begins to move. Through intuitive layers of color, texture, and material, each piece captures a threshold between endurance and release, presence and becoming.

In this mixed media painting with acrylic and resin, I created a dreamy azure path where 3D butterflies seem to come alive, fluttering just above the surface. Each butterfly is carefully crafted, with wings that cast playful shadows on the textured background. The resin adds a luminous finish, making the colors feel deep and glowing, almost as if the painting itself is breathing.

When I was working on this piece, I wanted it to feel like stepping into a space where reality and dreams gracefully intertwine. To me, it’s not just a painting — it’s a reminder of growth, hope, and the beauty in transformation.

I imagine it bringing a sense of calm and wonder to any space, whether it’s a cozy corner, a bright living room, or even a studio where you want inspiration close by.
